On October 28, 2026, Google announced that Ads in AI Mode are expanding to 10 new countries, covering hundreds of millions of new potential shoppers. For ecommerce brands running Google Search and Shopping campaigns, this means your ads will now appear inside an AI-powered search experience where queries average 3 times the length of traditional searches, and where sponsored and organic product listings earn similar click-through rates.
AI Mode is no longer a U.S.-only experiment. It is now a primary ad surface in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore, with Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom rolling out by end of Q4 2026. If your brand sells internationally or is planning to scale into any of these markets, your existing campaigns are already eligible to appear in AI Mode. The similar CTR between sponsored and organic results inside AI Mode means paid placement is holding its own against organic in this new search format.
Alongside the global expansion, Google is launching Multiturn Ads in the U.S. In AI Mode, users frequently ask follow-up questions within a single session rather than starting a new search. Multiturn Ads allow sponsored placements to appear during these follow-up interactions, not just on the initial query. For ecommerce brands, this means a shopper who asks "what are the best running shoes for flat feet" and then follows up with "which ones are under $150 and available in size 10" can see your ads at both touchpoints in the same conversation.
Google's data shows that queries in AI Mode average 3 times the length of traditional search queries. Shoppers are entering full sentences, product use cases, and comparison requests instead of keyword fragments. This shift has two implications for your ad copy. First, your headlines and descriptions need to answer specific intent, not just match keywords. Second, your landing pages need to deliver on the depth of intent those queries imply. A shopper asking "what protein powder is best for post-workout recovery for someone who is lactose intolerant" is not looking for a generic product page. They want an answer.
Ecommerce brands with strong product descriptions, robust FAQ content, and well-structured landing pages are better positioned to earn placement and conversions in this environment. You do not need to create separate campaigns for AI Mode. Google automatically enters your existing Search and Performance Max campaigns into AI Mode ad inventory. The immediate budget question is whether your current campaign structure is optimized for conversational intent. Broad match keywords and AI Max targeting are built for the longer, more nuanced queries that AI Mode generates. If you are still running primarily exact match and phrase match, you may be leaving significant AI Mode inventory on the table.
The international expansion also raises questions about geo-targeting. Brands that have excluded international markets because of cost or operational complexity may need to revisit those exclusions. AI Mode is bringing a higher-intent, more conversational shopper to those markets. Our Google Ads agency team can help you evaluate whether your current geo setup is leaving international AI Mode traffic behind.

No. Google automatically enters your existing Search and Performance Max campaigns into AI Mode ad inventory. No separate campaign type or setup is required.
As of October 28, 2026: Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore. Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom are planned for Q4 2026.
Multiturn Ads allow sponsored placements to appear during follow-up questions in an AI Mode conversation, not just on the first query. They are launching in the U.S. and will expand to other markets as AI Mode scales.
AI Mode queries are 3 times longer on average than traditional search queries. Conversational, long-tail queries perform better with AI Max targeting and broad match. If you rely heavily on exact match, you may be missing the AI Mode inventory that those longer queries generate.
Google has not announced specific CPC changes tied to AI Mode. However, the similar CTR between sponsored and organic results in AI Mode suggests that ad placements are performing competitively. Monitor your impression share, CTR, and cost-per-conversion as AI Mode scales in your target markets.
